Antique Victorian Gold Greek Key Scottish Brooch

About the Item

Dazzling gold and agate Scottish brooch made with an undulating Greek Key pattern in gold and granite with a flower burst large citrine pulling you in to the center. One of the most beautiful Scottish brooches I have found was artist made between 1860-1880. Take in the artistry. The center citrine reflects the granite of the agate. The setting of that gem undulates. Do not miss the lovely careful engraving on the gold. Goodness knows who once owned this. Only people who served at court or wealthy aristocrats could afford jewelry like this. A romance with Scottish tradition existed at this time flamed by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert who built a castle in Scotland and enjoyed it wearing Scottish attire. I am sure the queen would have treasured this. It is meaningful to know that the Greek Key is a symbol of infinite connection like the serpent holding its tail and the infinity knot. There is no beginning or end to the line rather it goes on and on. The condition is excellent. The pin section was fortified by adding gold so that it will hold for 100 years ahead. The size is 1 15/16ths in diameter. Weight: 32.5 grams
